Organic Agriculture

Healthy and good life is possible by consumption of natural foods. Due to all traditional methods of agriculture except organic farming method, create an increase in production quantity and profitability. However these methods cause soil, water and atmosphere to be contaminated with toxic materials and as a result our lives are adversely affected.

Almost all products we purchase from food bazaar or markets include food additives. Toxic metals created as a result of conventional agriculture contaminate soil and water, therefore seriously threaten our health. Short and long term side effects of these metals appear as insomnia, fatigue, headaches, eczema, memory loss and lack of concentration, depression, weakness in the immune system, auto-immune diseases, and high blood pressure. Another important harmful result of the conventional agricultural is carcinogenic effect of the chemical substances used. The additives used in conventional agriculture can cause cancer.

What is Organic Agriculture? (Ecological – Biological Agriculture)

In these days we started to feel the negative effects of chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.) used in agriculture on human health and society. Ecological Agriculture System is developed in order to eliminate these negative effects of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, by using them as little as possible or replace them to organic fertilizers and biological control methods having the same impact.

This production method adopted by FAO and the European Union as an alternative to conventional agriculture is called by different names in different countries. It is called in German and Northern European languages, "Ecological Agriculture", in French, Italian and Spanish, "Biological Agriculture", in English, "Organic Agriculture, in Turkish, the "Ecological and Organic Agriculture" synonymously.

Organic agriculture is an alternative production method which

  • Re-establishes the natural equilibrium of the ecological system which is lost as a result of wrong applications
  • Includes human and environment-friendly production systems
  • Prohibits usage of mainly synthetic chemical pesticides, hormones, and mineral fertilizers
  • Encourages organic and green fertilizers, crop rotation, soil conservation, increases plant resistance, uses the advantage of natural enemies
  • Proposes to have all of these possibilities in closed system
  • Increases not only the quantity but also the quality of products

Aim of Organic Farming

In recent years unconscious use of pesticides and fertilizers in crop production brought poor quality and life-threatening products besides the increase in production.

Phosphorus and nitrate which is reaching deep into soil down to the sources of fresh water, are leading to severe problems in terms of wildlife and human life. In addition, chemical pesticides accumulate in the soil, adversely affect environmental health and disrupt the ecological balance. In order to overcome these negative conditions, producers and consumers in highly developed countries got together and preferred to produce and consume agricultural products that do not harm the environment and have any toxic effects on human health. For this purpose, Ecological or Organic farming has emerged as a new production method.

Ecological farming is not abandoning and doing nothing after planting of a product or it’s not a return to old type of business. In the contrary, it is a form of agriculture based on the needs of the future that requires attention, knowledge and dedication.

Organic Farming is a production method which doesn’t have any chemical inputs in production and is controlled and certified in every stage from production to consumption.

Today, it is only possible with organic agriculture to protect environment, plant, animal and human health without polluting the air, soil and water resources.
